Dimensional drawings for 24ft Nissen? was created by DavidSutton
The only original documents I've seen for the 24ft Nissen are general arrangement drawings. Does anyone know if any dimensional drawings survive please?

Thanks

Thank you, have sent them a message. Would be surprised if nobody else here has ever studied this building type though!

I'm not sure what you're looking for David.

The sentence in Wiki reveals a lot: However, there is no standard model of Nissen huts, as the design was never static but changed according to demand.

I suspect a 'Nissen Hut' amounts to simply a pile of curved steel sheets and wooden purlins and you do with them whatever you wish. Ends, doors, windows, chimneys, ventilators, lining etc are added as required.

I presume you've seen: archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/archiveDS/a...oorLane_Roughton.pdf

Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite

You are kidding right? That report does not refer to a Nissen hut!

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

I was trying to find a site that I had looked at previously and came across this. Does not answer the question but some useful information there.

Karey conducted much of her research at the ARG archives, at Alconbury.

Thanks for trying to help guys. I'm looking specifically for the kind of key dimensions that are found on the plans for the 16ft Nissen (attached).
For example, radius of the curved roof and radius origin, dimensions and position of purlins and bearers. Dormer window structure and dimensions etc.
The kind of details you need to create an accurate CAD model.
I know certain ARG folk have modeled this type of structure before but I'm not sure if they were accurate models or approximations.

Cheers

You need the dimensioned MOD CAD drawing for "Nissen Hut Hangars".
They're on the net, all dimensioned in milimetres. (Not really useful when working with C-Type hangars for instance...)

Here's the Nissen sheet:

Brilliant Paul, there's some great info in there. Do you happen to know the timber size used for the Purlins on the 24' and 30' Nissens please?

Dave
