Peter K, yes and Cornwall will be at the forefront of another mining boom!
PeterTheEater, they are also looking at reopening some of the tin mines as the value of it has risen drastically since the last ones closed. What is also exciting is that extraction methods have advanced leaps and bounds so the mining will not have the environmental impact it had in Cornwall in the C18th & C19th centuries.
For the lithium extraction from the geothermal waters in the granite the hole underground is the size of a dinner plate. They are also looking at extracting the lithium from the mica in the granite in a hard rock project. As there is plenty of this lying around in the china clay waste in Cornwall as well as in the granite itself underground the mining world firmly has its eyes on Cornwall once more. The next five to ten years will be very interesting.
They have also been 3D mapping Cornwall's geology and old mine workings, which is what the Dakota is contributing towards.
