GOOGLE EARTH - PLACENAME BLACKOUTS was created by PETERTHEEATER
Today when I use GE I find that the map place names on the screen are blacked out with an opaque rectangular bar.
This includes my Placemarks.! Any ideas?

I just cleared the Cache and that fixed it. Strange, I've never had that before. Googling the problem turns up only those blacked out (censored) areas nothing on captions and place names.

How can you see from there? :)

I too can't recreate the problem. After recent experience my first port of call is some sort of update but I don't know how to find out if and when GE last updated. It sounds like it might be a font issue of some sort but if it only affects GE it would point back to a GE problem, although it could be related to an Windows update. Not much help until other users come across similar issues.

Try this one.

From GE Search box type PALESTINE. I did and got the big black. Cancelled it and went to a UK placename. From there zoomed out and navigated to Palestine manually, no problem.

Went back to Search box typed Palestine. Again got the big black. Tried zooming OUT and found a GE Placemark for Palestine in the ocean off the west coast of Africa!

Mayday, mayday!

Does changing the font size or colour make any difference? Also is this from existing KMZ/KML files or when you create new ones?
