Any ideas what this is?

Hi Everyone,

Not been on here for a while, but found this metal object on the beach at Earnley. Looks like it's been there a long time as it has that encrusted stone that is like concrete. It's near the old bombing range, and other objects from this era have the same encrusting as this.

Might not be anything, but the shape although dented is clearly splayed at the end. It's about 10 inches long, and excuse the lighter used as a measure for guidance.

Part of a rocket (RP)?

Also looks very like the "thingy' where gas from the burning cordite exhausts the RP round. Some still lying around at Treligga, Peter.

Thanks Guys. I should add its very heavy, I guess 3 to 4lbs so it would appear the splayed end is deliberate, as it would take quite a lot of pressure to flatten it.Dont think its a vase a the 'bottom' is open.

Still curious though.

Anyone got an image of a rocket venturi for comparison? Must admit, I've never seen a cut-away of these things.

Here we go.

Quite likely a Venturi from a 3 inch Rocket Motor. Probably an aircraft rocket considering the location (Bracklesham Bay Range?) but various 3 inch assault and ground to air rockets had similar construction.

That looks interesting, as the cupola type bit at the front looks similar. Not sure on the part where it says sheet steel though, as the thing I have is very heavy, and wouldn't imply sheet steel. I wil weigh it later.
It does look very close though.
