I remember seeing my first one in 1970.
I was stationed at the old radar unit on the north side at Heathrow; we watched it coming on radar then went outside to see if we could catch a glimpse and there was this huge silvery sausage in the sky on its way to Germany from the USA.

The C5 and 747 were rivals for the USAFs contract for a large airlifter, I had a look round one, my good its big!

Allegedly there was a model of one in RAF markings in the office of CinC Air Support Command.
