Dave, it might also be worth asking on the W&R yahoo group as well.

Yes - I have feelers out all over the place....but really I should have one of my own. I lived within a couple of miles of Xch airfield for the majority of my life.
I can't believe I did not take a picture of the Whirlwind- but I have been through every box/drawer/suitcase full of aircraft stuff without any luck!

Dave - I have had a look through Wrecks & Relics sixth and seventh editions which covers the period 1978 to 1980. XN264 gets a mention in both but alas no photo. Further mention is made in W&R 9 (1984) where it states that XN had moved to Hook Street. I dont have 5 & 8 so cant check these.

The links show photo's of XN264 for sale - although I dont know if they show XN at Christchurch

Without going through the usual sources, where did the Whirlwind go to and is it still about?
It looks good in that shot.

Well the last place I have been able to pinpoint it to was a private house in Grovesend nr Bristol, where it lived in a private houses grounds. This was in 1986.

We have pictures of the Whirlwind too, not sure about the Sea Vixen though.

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

Unfortunately 'Demobbed' dosen't list Whirlwind XN264 at all, which is a bad sign.
Thankfully Vixen XJ580 survives at the Tangmere aviation museum.
