'1964-vintage' Wikipedia states its a 1964 version that's fantastic a modern up to date aircraft for the RAF at last.

Another embarrassing fact is that the RAF (even with the new Voyager) will be unable to in-flight refuel their own RC-135's, which can only accept a refuelling boom and not hose/drogue. Over to our Nato friends!

Apparently the MOD had to "relax" it's acceptance criteria as a lot of the original documentation which is usually required is no longer available.

Double Whammy !! then, not only old but out of sell by date. I hope we paid America well for it as I would hate to think we could have negotiated a good price.

Great aircraft, provided security for these at Mildenhall. Even got to know a Crew Chief. Just don't stand in front when testing the pin point radar!!!! :-o I will put on a couple patches a was given later.

Hi Jeff,

Can you tell me when the first RJs were stationed at Mildenhall? And was their presence more or less continuous since then? We're still trying to fill in some of the detail for our Lottery project on Cold War in Breckland.
