Yeah it happened just up the road from here. Was all over local news but I don't think it made it onto the national tv news.

Fortunately missed the village, and the school, and the pilot was able to eject with only very minor injuries. Could have been very nasty.

Yes, I'm back(ish).

Paul and I heard it at Alconbury, from the timings presumably the other F-15 flying "top cover" while awaiting the pickup helicopter.

There is so much fast jet activity overhead around here on such a regular basis that we pay very little attention these days!

Hi Alex: Go back some 30 or 40 years and the skies over Lincolnshire were chock-a-bloc with military aircraft. Sitting on the sea wall at any of the bombing ranges was like a full-on airshow every working day (depending on the tide and planned night bombing). Things today are, in comparison, really very quiet.

I confer with that when on holiday at Iingomels we would often drive down to Waifleet to watch all types of aircraft use the ranges . In the mornings we would look out of the caravan window and see Phantoms from Coningsby flying really low heading out over the coast . Aah great days !!! Sadly no more .

Regards ,
Bomber.

I must be lucky then, every time I go near the range at RAF Holbeach they are doing bombing runs!

I have just spotted a picture of the blazing wreck on a Chinese military enthusiasts' web forum -- so the news travelled that far!

To be fair though there is a huge Chinese population in the tiny Lincolnshire village of Weston Hills.
It's very much like Craggy Island...

In all honesty though in normal times it would very quickly become national TV news, but at the moment there is an excess of other news that's somewhat monopolising the airtime...

Yes - I remember a couple of ROC camps in the late 60s (at Conongsby & Honington)....every available free hour was spent visiting airfields - many, many active...and on one memorable free afternoon a visit to Duxford where, being in uniform we managed to talk our way in and get around all the Battle of Britain aircraft.Later(early 70s) I took family and kids to camp in the Norwich area - still a very active area then.
