Jet Provost T4 XS186 wrapped up at Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre earlier this month

The Viper engine powering the JP has a 'total loss' oil system requiring the small oil tank to be topped off with about a litre of expensive oil for each one hour sortie. A fuel thirsty unit by today's standard but will run forever.

One of the few actions involving Strikemasters was at the"'Battle of Mirbat" on 17 July 1972 in the Dhofar region of southern Oman. A small SAS/BATT team (of less than 12 soldiers) based in Mirbat took on several hundred rebels and defeated them with the assistance of the Omani Air Force Strikemasters crewed by RAF seconded and contract pilots.

Yesterday about midday, after hearing a 1950s or 60s light jet whine approaching I dashed outside to see a Jet Provost flyover our house. Not seen one of those since the 90s. No idea which one it was a the computer decided to update when I booted it up!

It's still in the same field, though has been slightly moved around this area quite a few times. I took these 10-05-2023.
