Vickers B.9/32

I've had this photo passed on to me, with the story that it was taken at RAF Hampstead Norris. It's difficult to read the ID with any certainty, but having looked up the likely combinations (such as K4643) on UKSerials.com I am at a loss. According to that source the most likely aircraft is the Hawker Hind or another biplane of that era, which it is clearly not! Any one with any ideas? Thanks, Peter

Wellington prototype.

K4049, the Vickers B.9/32. Haven't seen a photo of it with the figure 7 on though. Maybe it's a "new type on parade number" used at Hendon and such when displayed to the public. This machine crashed on Apr 19, 1937 (first flown May 36) so the link to HN may be spurious. (Source: Wellington Special, by A Lumsden. One of the few books I can put my hand on immediately!)

Thanks for clearing that up. Clearly a very distorted photograph - I never gave the Wellington a thought. I've just found a photo of the plane on page 10 of Ken Delve's book (The Vickers-Armstrong Wellington), and it has the figure 7 on it for the RAF display in June 1936 at Hendon. Nothing to do with HN for sure.

There are letters on the hangar doors in the background.

Could the V to the left of the fin actually be the mark between the "wings" between Vickers and Brooklands, and LA to the right, be part of the word Brooklands?

Crash date according to classicwarbirds was on 19th April 1937 attributed to elevator over balance in a high speed dive.

It records that the coverings to the nose and tail cupolas were installed in June 1936 following its roll out in May 1936.

It doesn't look very geodetic , does it ?
