Has somebody seen the light?

Begs the question, where could they be based, is there enough space on the existing two airfields or will they need a third? Leuchars comes to mind even though Ted has probably gotten used to the quiet by now!

Myself & Burleysway1 spent a very enjoyable but very grey & wet day at Coningsby last wednesday (28-3-18) to catch some Typhoon action. Here's a set of some of the photos I took......Hmmmm!!! grey jets on a grey background  -

RAF 100 Tail marking -

I couldn't resist getting the windsock in as well -

The viewing mound near the end of the runway looks like it may not be there for much longer. A big chunk has been dug away last week & also prier to that recently the RAF Police have moved people off it whilst the Typhoon display aircraft performs it's practise displays. It'll be a shame when it's gone as it's a great view across the station.

RAF receives final Eurofighter Typhoon

The UK Royal Air Force (RAF) has received the last of its Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 multirole combat aircraft into service, with the announcement on 27 September that deliveries from BAE Systems Warton have been concluded.

Delivery of the final Tranche 3 aircraft brings to an end a production run of 160 Typhoons for the RAF that began in 2003.

The RAF fields eight Typhoon units with 1 (Fighter), 2 (Army Cooperation), 6, and 9 (Bomber) squadrons based at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland; and 3 (Fighter), 11 (Fighter), and 12 (Bomber) squadrons based at RAF Coningsby in England. There is also a permanent detachment (1435 Flight) located on the Falkland Islands.

As noted by BAE Systems, with RAF production now concluded, the line will begin work on 22 aircraft for Qatar, with deliveries to begin in 2022. Saudi Arabia signed a memorandum of intent (MOI) for 48 additional aircraft in March, although production details have not been disclosed. BAE Systems and its partners are engaged in a number of ongoing tenders for additional orders around the world.

So 232 Typhoons that the RAF was definetely going to get became 160. Now Im not a mathematician but to me that is a lot of aircraft to divide up between what is in effect 7.5 Squadrons.
