Assisted Safe/Landing Equipment

Whilst researching a fairly well known Halifax crash at RAF Silverstone I came across this.....

"....the machine struck the high masts of the Assisted Safe / Landing Equipment here and crashed into the adjoining fields."

Does anyone have any information, drawings or photo's of the high masts or the Assisted Safe/Landing Equipment associated with them?

Suspect it was an early form of ILS ( instrument landing system )
Think the High master would be for the glide path were as the the low mast would be for left or right of runway centre line.

No idea what this refers to. Silverstone in 1944 had the Standard Beam Approach. It's masts were just off the end of the main runway and we're about 8 metres high. There was no glide path.
Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite :twisted:
