I have just had someone contact me about an Air Service Training College, what is it? Where was it? Any ideas?

The only "Air Service Training College" Google spits out is Oman Air's Air Service Training College (AST College) at Perth College, Scotland.

This would appear to be the direct descendent of Air Service Training Ltd. founded at Hamble in 1931 by John Davenport Siddeley (Lord Kenilworth).

There was a company at Hamble called Air Service Training, that was a long time back and were linked to Fairey somehow. I'm not sure if it is still going or know any company history.

AST was the predecessor of The College Of Air Training - AST left Hamble for Perth around 1960 after almost 30 years of operation.
Amongst others, Amy Johnson learned to fly with AST at Hamble

AST at Perth trained a large number of Iraqi pilots, in august 1990 the Iraqis were grounded!

We have quite a bit of info on AST both at Hamble and Perth including all buildings at both sites photographed in the early 1980s.

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

If you view post 3 on the Ansty chain you can see another part of theSiddely training scheme , and on the post Anstey - 9 EFTS aircrew losses memorial a memorial to trainees who were killed in training.
