Fairford - yes of course, now I come to think of it. I'm getting confused with USAF returning as opposed to reopening it. Concorde hadn't long left and some of the ATC staff from Brize were detached over there to man the tower, unitl the USAF took over in 79. Vc10 and Hercs used it as you say...Doh

Brize wouldn't be an option for RIAT, too much traffic there as it is. Waddo I don't think is central enough. They used Cottesmore when the runway at FFD was being re-surfaced. But then I always thought that Cottesmore was going to be shutting soon as well.
