Disused European Airfields

Disused European Airfields was created by Peter Kirk
As mentioned in another thread I did a bit of G'Earthing and came across these two, amongst others, that were clearly not used as airfields currently.

This one I labelled as Venlo
Located at 51:22:14 N, 6:13:34 E



This one I have no idea
Located at 48:56:55 N, 0:56:01 E



Would it be worth adding more here or dding them under their names? There must be more than a dozen :lol:

IIRC and someone else might help me out on this theres a disued airfield near to Gutersloh, I think it was called Oelde or something like that.

There is A Google Earth .kmz file available at the link which locates probably two hundred Luftwaffe WW2 airfields in Germany .....

One of the best looking ones is at Orianenburg (just N of Berlin)

Thanks for the links Dave. One thing that struck me is that a lot of German airfields are very close to built up areas, more so than UK ones.

Yes but I wonder if the built up areas have gradually moved towards the airfields over the past 50 years?

Much the same thing has happened here in many cases.

A couple to add here ....

Netherlands .

Valkenburg closed on 2006- plans announced for the building of 5000 houses on the site.
Soesterburg closed end of 2008- future unknown.

Good images of both in Virtual Earth(GE images are pixelated out)

Couple of French ones - top is Frejus - now supposedly a nature park ,though it looks more like a carpark to me.

Lower is the site of Guyancourt (SW of Paris ) now an industrial estate.
