Re-fueling areas

Here are a few phtoos of the re-fueling area at Woodbridge, I am not sure what the various things are though!
I think it was the 'hot' refueling area.

the first two appear to show a non-aspirating fire fighting monitor.

Stevfire2: That was my thought, presumably to dump foam onto the refuelling pit in the event of an accident. The refuelling pit seems to have a sliding lid - wonder if REF got any shots from inside the pit?

It is really just the photos I have put up WJT - none of the insideof the pit.

I thought that would be the case Richard. If you ever get the chance to go back, it would be very interesting to see inside that pit with the sliding roof.

I'm sure you are right that this is a hot refuelling area, with the weight of the hose being carried on the little set of wheels. I suppose that the questions this raises are numerous. For example, was it put in for the Phantoms or the A-10s? Were similar facilities installed at Bentwaters and the other USAF airfields? And then there is the never discussed subject of refuelling hydrant systems at RAF airfields. Roll on the upgraded website and the new section on airfield facilities!

Interesting pics REF, first couple definately look like fire fighting kit, third pic you can see a BFI and control building.

Looks like where the station fire section do their fire training, where they would have a module connected to a fuelling system to ignite the model into flames and practice fighting the fire.

Not that close to a bulk fuel installation or tower it won't be!

Actually, yeah it will be that close to the tower, it's not even really close to be honest. And there's no BFI near it, just looks like the fuelling parts for the fire trainer. I know this from experience of working at active airfields, seen it loads of times.
