If you drive around the Farnborough area, you will note that most highways agency roadsigns show the way to 'Farnborough Aerodrome'. This is at the insistence of the local council who, in the early days of conversion from military to civil spec, refused to envisage it as an 'airport'.
The owners, TAG Aviation, call it 'TAG Farnborough Airport' of course and other local airfields such as Fairoaks and Blackbushe are called 'airports' too.

In the nineteenth century "Aerodrome" meant a flying machine,how confusing.
