Renfrew & Abbotsinch in the Blitz was created by KeMac
Could anyone tell me the dates if possible that Renfrew and Abbotsinch were bombed during the War? I am sure that Renfrew was hit by a number of bombs over 13-15th March 1941 during the Clydeside attack and the 13 Group ORB has a large bomb being dropped on Renfrew on 14 October 1940 at 0625hrs.There was a large UXB defused at Renfrew in 1946.
Thanks

The night raid of Monday 05/06 May 1941 also covered Renrew.

Abbotsinch (now Glasgow Airport) being just to the west of Renrew was almost certainly in the raid zone.

Forum member Martin may be able to glean some details from his contemporary newspaper report archive.

I did check the Home Security reports at the Mitchell Library as well but could find next to nothing on the two airfields.

Just reading through This Time of Crisis to see if I could get any details. Very detailed reports on many raids, lots of exact times but few dates given so cannot work out which were on that night. There were certainly bombs falling over a wide area.

A 1000KG fell on Renfrew airfield and was dug out in 1946, now on display at RAF Wittering (or at least was when the book was written).

A Socialist MP asked if the government would make an agreement with the Germans not to bomb at night! Sort crazy thing that I imagine Corbyn proposing.
