The link may or may not work. If it doesn't you need to include an 'S' after the HTTP. No idea why this happens as it should automatically do this for you, but I assume it is a new feature to improve our browsing.:)

Or is it just me?

Thank You for that. I now know not to fly my executive jet into Syerston. I'm happy with two hours free parking, but £1650+VAT per 24 hrs after that is a bit steep.

I was taught that MOD policy is to allow civilian traffic in to its airfields. But, we werent supposed to undercut civvy airfields, and that military movements had priority. So you had the situation at Leuchars in 2000 when the ASPs were chocka with biz jets, so chocka that even two weeks beforehand we had to start turning biz jets away. So Sevvy Ballesteros had to fly in to Dundee, and while his aircraft was on the ground someone got in to the airfield overnight and did over a million quids worth of damage.

And during that open Leuchars took over 250k in landing parking and fuel fees.

Years ago someone said that private aircraft needed a lot of insurance cover to use an RAF airfield, presumably enough to cover them scratching one of the RAF's expensive playthings.

Not sure about aircraft of bizjet size but reports on forae like Flyer Forums indicate an insurance premium is included in the landing fee for light aircraft.
If you want to fly into one, ask when you phone Ops to book a landing; better still phone Colerne ATC who have been encouraging people to land there as there is little or no RAF traffic.
By the way, in the airfield listing, have you seen the Diego Garcia entry ('under development')?
I suppose as i'ts British Indian Ocean Territory the airfield is technically 'leased' to the D of D in the same way as Fairford, Mildenhall, etc.

Back in my time aircraft under 14.5 metric tonnes had to prove they had insurance, they faxed us the documents. Now if they had the necessary amount of cover then no problems. However if they didnt have necessary amount of cover then they paid a one off fee to cover that landing, it was £8.50. Over 14.5 metric tonnes then they had to have an MOD insurance waiver certificate, and they were only issued by HQ Strike Command. And the section that dealt with them really starred during the open at St Andrews in 2000. We had as I said earlier lots of biz jets in for the open and most were over 14.5 tonnes. On the first day of the open we were still getting request for the Sunday and the Monday. The operators of these aircraft were going mad because they couldnt get hold of the section at Strike Command, because they all gone off parachuting for the day!!!

And as for fees heres an example. I worked for Servisair at Manchester airport and one of the airlines we looked after was PIA. On a Tuesday they had a 747 come in from JFK. It would then sit on a stand for 8 hours before departing to Lahore. I wonder how much that cost?????

The RAF are a bit paranoid about civil powered aircraft operating when there is winch launched gliding in progress so it's probably just their way of discouraging you from landing and parking at Syerston.
