High Flight film 1957

This film was released in 1957 and I have just had a close look at the opening shots re. the light aircraft landing--it swaps between Cranwell and switches to another airfield(different hangars to Cranwell) when the Vampire attempts to land..I think these shots were probably taken at Fulbeck or Barkston Heath-both satellites of Cranwell-Incidentally the lead role was played by Ray Milland a wartime civilian instructor in the USA,The Provost shots look like the River Witham between Lincoln and Tattershall Bridge.

Fitting that Lincolnshire was the setting for some of this film as the author of that wonderful poem High Flight, John Gillespie Magee flew from RAF Digby and lays at rest in Scopwick.

I like the fact that aircraft are cleared by the tower to take off on 27 and it is in fact 09. I suppose 3 years at Cranwell tells me that they got that wrong!

And when their taking of on 09 you cant see the hangar at Rauceby Lane.
