Villages to lose passenger train service
Selby-Driffield line decision

The Selby - Driffield railway passenger service is to be closed because of expense, announced a letter from the British Transport Commission, read at yesterday’s meeting of Driffield Rural Council.
The Commission had estimated a net saving of £11,263 a year on staff and train running costs with the withdrawal of the passenger service. Inquiry had shown that the average number of passengers at 10 village stations on the route did not work out at more than one person boarding and one alighting from train each weekday.
The stations affected by the withdrawal notice are Cliff Common, Bubwith, High Field, Foggathorpe, Holme Moor. Everingham, Enthorpe, Middleton, Bainton and Southburn.
No indication was given as to the date on which It is proposed to close the line. The Rural Council decided to make comment on the letter.
