Having used multiple names for airfields both as generic terms and also the names of individual airfields. I applied the same logic to bombing ranges by including bombing ground, aerial range and bombing area. This week I came across a new one 'Bombing Station'.
This was in the BNA search and was mainly confined to local newspapers but syndication seems to have spread the phrase and it seems to have been quite popular. I have no idea where it came from as it didn't feature in TNA search results, but they did apply it equally to bomber aerodromes and bombing ranges, e.g. 'Theddlethorpe bombing station'. If the term was used post 1938 then it would tie in with the renamed 'Armament Training Stations' but this was 1925 to 1935 in the main when they were 'Armament Training Camps'.
I wonder how many other search terms I have overlooked?
