I've just got myself a detector and working on permission to hunt on a few airfields near me, does or has anyone done this, what sort of items do you find, and I'm willing to join anyone..

According to my wife's detectorists handbook the first thing is get an old map (plan for the airfield) and find the location of likely active areas. I would assume the machine gun butts and the bomb dump would be suitable areas apart from that I can't help as my wife has yet to get the thing out of the box and she has had it two years!

There is a chap on youtube that does this in the uk.. he has some amazing finds!!

You can find all sorts of bits and bobs, from the remains of Flare & signal cartridges to many varied and assorted aircraft parts. Even live ammunition, this must always be treated with the respect it deserves, as some types of heavy calibre rounds were of the explosive variety.
