Hi guys: I have a question about the type of hut in a photo I am attaching (I hope!). It is in the 351st BS area at Thorpe Abbotts. On the airfield plan, the huts in this area were noted as Thorne which in both Paul Francis' book and David J Smith's book are noted as being timber. The huts in the many photos of the 351st area are of a corrugated type which I believe would be a "Jane's". Is this correct? The window style is different from the one shown in Pauls book, but the rest of the construction appears to be the same. There were also 16' Nissens on the site. But even I can tell the difference between a Nissen and most other types ; ) !!!!

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

Karl I must admit I had to check the pic in the book as well but I think your hut is a Janes too. The Thorne had canted sides and was plasterboard covered while the Jane had straight sides.In the absence of any further proof I think Jane is OK. In my experience, the AMWD architects who drew up the plans, often got their hut types mixed up (as we do) and sometimes drew them in the wrong place so we have to take with a pinch of salt whether a plan is truely accurate or not.

Actually that's a good point about errors. It might be worth logging known errors on site plans in the audits as this would prevent errors being repeated ad infinitum. Providing the errors are backed up with evidence.
