Airfield dump docu

This has just come up on Key, and forgive me if it has been mentioned here, but this is a link to an interesting dump find at Rougham.

The site also claims a major survey of alot of other 8th Airforce bases, has anyone here noticed anything?

As someone involved in this particular project, I guess I'd better chime in.

The dig wasn't at Rougham, nor was it on any airfield for that matter.
The items dumped were from a number of USAAF airbases nearby however.

Survey-wise, there is no co-ordinated airfield survey organised by USAAF.co.uk, however a number of targeted alleged "airfield dump" sites have been investigated by forum members with geophysical surveys over a number of years.

Finally, it's not so much a documentary, more a half-hour BBC Local Programming item of the 7.30 on a monday evening slot type.

Sorry if I came across a bit grouchy in my first post, I've been fielding parts enquiries from warbird operators worldwide at all hours since Sunday night, on top of the flood of new applications to join the AAF forum.

The site is a wartime AAF aircraft parts dump, just not physically on an airfield.
What we found was a mix of service replaced components and surplus unused spare parts, the latter presumably deposited at the end of the war rather than being shipped back to the USA.

The landowner has requested the location not be divulged, all I can say is it's in East Anglia and was used by a number of 8AF airfields locally.

Finally, I've been informed this morning that the Inside Out program on the project is currently slated to be broadcast during January or February 2010.

Right ! That's narrowed it down - as soon as the snow thaws, I'm off to this 'East Anglia' place with a shovel.....
