Italy: World War II Airfields of the US Fifteenth Air Force was created by TommyUSA
A Google Earth file with a total of twenty-one airfields.
Today there are four still active: two active commercial airports (blue pushpin), one military airfield (green) and one civil airfield (yellow).
There are 17 abandoned airfields (red), most of which are indiscernible on the ground, but can be picked out by aerial photography.
Each airfield place contains notes on dates in use, construction, current usage and US formations active at the field (with equipment and dates).

Thanks Tommy. Having read "Wild Blue" a few years ago I had trouble finding the airfield George McGovern flew from.
The book also had a good description of what it was like flying into a flak box.

George McGovern, the American politician? Then that would be San Giovanni Airfield, of which one can just make out a trace of on GE... which you've seen by now, I take it!

George McGovern, the American politician? Then that would be San Giovanni Airfield, of which one can just make out a trace of on GE... which you've seen by now, I take it!

Sure have. It's amazing that some of the PSP airfields still show easily recognisable oulines including the hardstand. I suppose being slighly drier than the UK helps.
I had a pic of Foggia in 1988 which I gleaned from an Italian mapping site which either went offline or has evolved onto a different address. This site had large areas of Italy covered by B & W aerials and was good quality with decent maps. This pre-dates GE and was probably around 1999/2000. I wish I'd taken more time to grab the pics when I found it but within a week it said something about permissions and stopped working.
Footnote probably has a few target photos of some of these before the new owners moved in.
