Where and to whom was it presented too ??


We're trying to find this kind of information out AFman. Would be nice, wouldn't it if there was any provenance with it. At least this one is safe. Much digging around to do me thinks!

I had no idea about these plaques, apart from the one at Whitehaven, so will now make some enquires around my local towns and city's. Hopefully Oxford will have one?

Anyone's guess AFman. A bit of Googling has revealed a couple more which I'll add to the list, along with a bit of what I've found out so far. I only found out abut these things by accident a few weeks ago. Still trying to find out if Sheffield got one!

If you come up with anything, let us know! The more the merrier.

No idea AFman, it was purchased in Devon 12 years ago at an antique fare. I would really like to know more.


I would welcome further information. I have a plaque for the RAF and also the Army. I presume there is one for the navy. Do they have any value?

The example at East Kirkby, in the Watch Office, is , i belive 'plastic' and is cracked but an example none the less.

Manchesters, March 1943 'Wings for Victory' display aircraft, ED749, ended up at Grimsby airfield with 100 Squadron in May '43.

When sqdn formed in March 43 one such Lancaster carried nose-art depicting the same figure as seen in Norwichpaul's photo.

Carl where did you get yours from? I assume you have Salute the Soldier Week. Are they full or haf size? The larger plaques are more common than the smaller ones, these being presented to Town Halls, banks etc that did not meet the target but had still made a large contribution. And yes they do have value.
You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

Google, Settle Wings for Victory Week. It shows an original Wartime [Amateur?] film of this North Yorkshire's small towns efforts during 1943. Sadly there is no sound.
