Defences or not??

I wasn't really sure what section to post this as it's not strictly speaking airfield related.
I've been facinated by these gun emplacement defences pictured below since i first saw them at King's Cliffe and more recently at Long Marston so i was quite suprised to come across four extreamly similar looking 'upturned concrete pipes' alongside the banks of the canal which runs through Leicester. I didn't have my camera at the time and they were half covered in snow anyway so a photo was impossible.
They were exactly the same as these at Long Marston situated side by side and there were two more placed directly behind -


I was just wondering if anybody knows if these could actually be the same type of gun defences but not on an airfield site? (or are they just upturned sewage pipes after all!!!)
I know a piccy would help and i'll return when the snow has eventually gone. I will add that there is the main gas works and towers for Leicester further down the old canal towpath and they were targeted by the Germans in the war.

I've often wondered if some defences were produced by companies making water pipes anyway, both HP Forts and Sangars are remarkably similar (read the same!) to existing concrete pipes.

The relatively modern Sangars are indeed commercial drainage inspection Chamber rings. Spent some time putting them into place at different MOD sites many moons ago!

Well here they are anyway.
It just seems to much of a coincidence that they are laid out exactly side by side in exactly the same way as they are at an airfield. They do seem a lot smaller though.



It was pretty difficult to get a decent pic to be honest due to the rain and undergrowth and couldn't get both sets in one photo unfortunatly.


I didn't half get some strange looks off passers by on the canal towpath whilst i was taking these pics !

Likewise when I photographed the Cark BHQ, "Why are you photographing an old air-raid shelter?"
"Because it's not an air-raid shelter!" - "Oh Yes It Is" - "Oh No It Isn't" etc etc ad infinitum.

By the time I'd finished with the guy explaining BHQs, Speech Broadcasting Buildings, dispersed sites and the like he confessed it was the most enlightening half-hour he'd had in quite a long time.

You were lucky they believed you. I spent a good 20 minutes looking at a decontamination building while a Class 1 idiot told me it was a bomb store.
Him: It's a bomb store.
Me: Why does a bomb store have showers?
Him: It's a bomb store.
Me: Why is a bomb store attached to an SSQ?
Him: It's a bomb store. I should know, I worked on enough bomb store conversions blah blah...
Me: Was that before or after you fell and injured your brain?

Why not showers? We loved our bombs to be clean so that they would not be classed as biological weapons.
