He may not thank me for this but Dave Smith retired yesterday . He 'worked' in the tower at Liverpool John Lennon and previously at Carlisle , Halfpenny Green , Coventry and Preston Radar ;
Yes, retired today. A flypast by a Valley Hawk was arranged, also by a Warton Typhoon and the Boscombe Down BAC 111 but the foul weather caused all the flying programmes to be scrubbed. I was gutted! An F-15 was another possibility, as well as a KC-135 but they didn't happen either. Which left three Tomahawks of Lpool Flying School to fly round and round the tower, callsign "Smithy Formation". I am not making this up! The resident Stearman, Tiger Moth, Chipmunk and Harvard would have gone up too, had it not been so windy.
It'll probably hit me in a day or two that I am not going to talk to aeroplanes any more!
