Wouldnt suprise me Ted. We had the acting CO get done for drink driving at Gutersloh, he was a Wing Commander at the time and he retired as an Air Commodore!
Ten years ago today was my last working day in the RAF. I did an afternoon shift which meant that as Id handed in my kit that morning I worked in civvies.
What was a bit spooky was that as I joined up on the 11th of July I got kitted out at Swinderby on the 13th of July. So 23 years to the day after being kitted out I was de-kitted as the stackers call it.
Whenever I mentioned that Id been to Colchester Id get odd looks. My detachment was actually to the air cell of 24 Air Mobile Brigade, and my barrack block was the backdrop for the opening scene of Blackadder goes forth.
I went past the nick a few times when I was at Colchester, it was odd seeing a military unit with the angle on the top of the fence on the inside and not the outside! And given my civvy job I think Colchester is how a prison should be run.
