I thought it would be a good idea for us to post a picture of a local war grave for Remembrance Day. Doesn't matter which service and I thought it would be a good idea to pick those that were not well known graves, just local men or women killed in the line of duty.
Not a standard CWGC headstone but listed as a war grave. He served with 169Sqn. The grave is in St Paulinus churchyard, Crayford, Kent.

In Ware cemetery is the grave of a local chap killed on ops in a Mosquito.
Not a CWGC grave either which is unusual.
From the RAF Commands website: Mosquito HR239 of 107 Sqn hit trees in crashlanding Bradshott Hall, Hampshire. Navigator - F/O John W. HUGHES - 154746 (1613669) also killed.
The Timmons family used to be Greengrocers in the town back in the 1960's

I took these today between the showers. This is Cuddington Churchyard Bucks. About a mile from Haddenham airfield. Can't find any information about this chap. I was told in 1980 by my girlfriends parents that he was a Spitfire Pilot. The first name that everyone says when thinking of WW2 aircraft. The name Ridout seems to have Dorset origins?
For years on my way to work, I have passed this CWGC head stone, situated in the corner of Fulmodestone Churchyard. Finally I stopped and looked and was quite surprised with what I saw.
As no one is buried there, but are buried in the next village of Croxton.
Questions I am looking into hopefully, when I get time to check Church records etc.
I might find some answers.
Where did they die?
Why was H. J. Utting buried there and not in his own village of Barny where according to my research he lived? And I have found several Uttings buried in Barny Churchyard.
Why did a lad of 17 join the army and die for his country.

Here is why I think the CWGC Headstone is at Fulmodestone and not at Croxton for some reason Croxton Church was abandoned. I have searched the graveyard, but have found no trace of their graves, I think you will see why
This is Croxton Church and graveyard.
