Regarding the Bampton Castle soft NUB in Oxfordshire near Brize Norton, it was clad in brick under pressure from the local council. The spec for all new NUB's (New Uniter Buildings) was for the NUB's to be painted in 'Tone down' green. The Signals Unit based there have now departed and the little base closed down. It is now a small industrial estate on the edge of the village of Bampton. For the interest of 'Downton Abbey' viewers, the village is used for the village scenes of 'Downton Abbey'.

I may have a photo of the Bampton Castle NUB, if so, I will scan it and attach it to one of my posts. If I do not find a photo of it, I will drive over to Bampton and take some pictures of it. I only live ten miles or so away from it, I live in Abingdon.

Had confirmation that Fort George (Inverness) was not a normal HUB but an enlarged bunker incorporating a Control Center and staff sleeping and living accommodation.

Were there any other large control bunkers anywhere else on the UNITER system?

I have just inserted three photos of the RAF Bampton Castle NUB. I took these photos yesterday, 18 December 2013. This is the first time I have added photos to this website, so I hope they are inserted when I submit the message. Fingers crossed....Vic

The NUB is now being used as a store for a waste recycling company, I had a chat with one of the guys there yesterday. He told me that BT had been there recently pulling out fibre optic cable. I notice there are a few alterations to the building, a 1st floor room complete with a big window has been formed complete with an outside staircase.

We at GPT, contracted Bovis to project manage all 58 or so NUB's in the UK on site using four construction company's in four geographical regions to build them. Quality of the work was paramount and I found it a bit sad to see the building as shown in the photos. The one at Bampton Castle, along with Brize, Rudloe Manor, Odiham, Lyneham and St Mawgan were built by Cementation of the Trafalgar House Group. I think they have been merged with somebody else now.

Sealand is a much larger than usual Uniter Bunker, and still looks to be active. I'll have a look later.
