RAF Aircraft chocks

Can anyone help please.
I bought these chocks to display with my ex RAF Land Rover at shows.They came from an ex RAF airfield, and I would like to know why they are painted as shown in the photo.

My guess is so they can be seen!!!!!!!!!! A black chock against a black tyre would be difficult to see and on some units aircrew are allowed to depart without groundcrew in attendance and its happened that theyve forgotten to remove the chocks before starting up and taxying out.

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense, marking them so they can be seen better. I wondered about the two colours. Left & Right?

Never seen any chocks marked like that at all. I don't think that there needs to be a left or right but I could be wrong. Thinking about it though, it could simply be a way to identify the chocks to a particular "owner", a specific squadron perhaps? Chocks can "disappear" like everything else.

Chocks are not 'handed'. I was more intrigued by the directional arrow (just above the WD Broad Arrow symbol) implying that of three possible ways only one is correct! That would defeat the design objective of having a reversible any-of-three-ways-up chock.

Thanks for the input guys. As you say, they may have been marked up by the owner so they wouldn`t go walkies and the arrow was a bit of a joke. It`s the sort of thing someone would do.
