My lucky 8th AF Group numbers.

At my local club every November we have what is called the Draw on the door. This consists of a large numbered sheet from 1 to 500, every year I always win something, this is by picking many of the 8th Air Force Bomber and Fighter Group numbers. At 50p a go I usually spend about £6.00. The number 355, [355th FG] has won for me on two occasions. I try to be one of the first once the sheet goes up. Not all of the money is used for prizes, a good amount is for a christmas dinner for our local OAP's mid-way through December.

The draw took place on Wednesday 21st. I won a bottle of CyT Sauvignon [Yuk!!] with draw number 487 [487th. BG] My mate had already chosen No 491 [491st. BG] which won him a bottle of Bells, wouldn't swap though But at least I still won something...even if it was the last number drawn.

Blimey, Ive won an infra red grill, numerous bottles of booze, drinking glasses and would you believe a kite!

But they do say that ot have been born an Englishman is to have won first prize in the lottery of life.

A Kite ! RAF slang for an aircraft ! Or was it just a common Red Kite... large feathered bird

I wish it had been a red kite, but this one was the sort that you attempt to fly.

Yes ! I think you are correct about that ! But where did the term 'Kite' come from? was it an affectionate saying of the 1930s for an aeroplane...

There were man carrying kites in the early days of aviation so Im guessing thats where it comes from.

Oh and I won a grand today at the half time draw at the football!!!
