US Army Temporary Landing Grounds

I am trying to track down the locations of US Army temporary landing grounds/atrips in the south West.

Does anyone know the locations of any of the following please

Grampound is the only one in your list in Cornwall. I don't know a location but will ask a few people and report back.

The link should give you the location of the camp - between Grampound and Grampound Road. Someone at the local Heritage Group is asking around to see if they can pinpoint which field/s the landing ground was in. The local comment is about Dakotas bringing in the supplies. Will post again when I have more to report.

Wow, none of the fields near that map ref seem big enough to land a Dac.

This request started off as a simple desire to pin down some TLG's. A Dakota sized runway was not on my thinking list.

Agreed Pillboxman. I've been looking for where hedges have been removed and then possibly reinstated post war or for where the tree lines have been removed. That area is definitely where the camp was. Have to see what they turn up as to where the landing ground was - it may have been slightly further afield.

Spoke to a guy who was 12 when war broke out. He's lived in the Grampound/Probus area all his life. He has no recollection of any landing ground at any stage during the war. And while he said the Americans had guards at every junction he used to go with his father to one of their camps to collect the swill for the pigs and is certain he would have spotted aircraft and a landing ground as they travelled in their lorry. Another guy whose father farmed locally during the war has no recollection of his father mentioning planes landing in the local area.

I've also been given the names of a couple more elderly locals who have lived there all their lives and am due to follow that up next week. If I have any more to report I will post again.
