Boulton Paul Buildings

Norwichpaul, It's yours for £80,000 ! haha. Something I notice from looking, briefly, into the history of this company is that when aircraft manufacturing moved from Norwich to Wolverhampton it became Boulton Paul, whilst the company that remained here in Norwich was Boulton and Paul ? When I arrived here in the late 60's they were still a large employer, making mainly steel framed agricultural and factory type buildings as above photos. Since then it removed to Lowestoft, making wooden windows, but still exist as something like Jel Webb Windows !

Wasn't there a picture that Richard Drew posted up somewhere on the forum of a shed that was built by Boulton and Paul??

Further afield there is a B&P bungalow at the Launceston Steam Railway in Cornwell. They bought the building, disassembled it and transported it to their main station to rebuild it as a tea room.
Very little rot was found, and it was remarkably easy to reassemble, a great testament to the company after all this time.

As mentioned above, the Wolverhampton branch dropped the 'and' between the two names. That is important because:
1. The Boulton Paul Defiant is a turret-equipped fighter; but
2. The Boulton and Paul Defiant is a cow shed

On a parallel tack:
1. The Bristol Beaufighter is a twin-prop night fighter and maritime attacker
2. The Bristol Beaufighter is a luxury car

1. The Gloster Javelin is a delta-wing jet
2. The Gloster Javelin is a fire engine

Yes, Kevin! I made a particular note when I came across a Defiant shed about 30 years ago; obviously the name (on a plaque on the building) was not a coincidence. To be truthful, the Defiant is a general "agricultural building" and not exclusively reserved for cows -- but anything the farmer wants to put in it.

One wonders if there are other B&P buildings following the aeronautical theme.
