Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite

Those radar ones are some of the best paintings I've seen in the IWM collection. Very good as an historical reference (source).
now that a decent zoom is available on most photos they are very useful and some items have two photos, or more, each with better zoom levels.

Such a shame about the blank placeholders as they always seem to be more interesting that the visible ones. There is a whole series of aerial photos of the SLG's that remain blank! I wonder if they will ever be added?

What will it take to unblank them? Will it be enough for one of us have to visit in person and give them our best guesses? Or maybe they have a long term plan to digitise them all for us to cogitate over at leisure? Will the IMW allow a visitor (say, me) to photograph-the-photograph? I am confident that I can recognise Blidworth/Hardwick/Grove quickly, but am not so sure on the others without some investigation, but once such images are copied and posted on here, I'm confident we (the greater we) could fill in all the gaps in their knowledge.

I think Petertheeater has been to the photographic library and there was a box of uncatalogued aerial photos. It's on my list of places to visit - eventually!

Those (and more?) can also be seen on Art UK - has the advantage that you can save your "Favourites". I think you can also add information to images on Art UK.

Yes, that was a very long time ago. The filing system was Kardex so a manual search under various topics, find the cards referring to the photo/image and then go to a rack and 'pull' the album. A curse really since it was so easy to be diverted from your intended search and look at others!

The intention then was to digitise the collection. I made notes of a number of erroneous captions and after returning home found some references to back up my assertions. I then informed the IWM keepers who acknowledged and took the corrections is hand.

Not long ago it was called BBC Your Paintings when in 2012 the " Public Catalogue Foundation (PCF) and the BBC completed their hugely ambitious project to put online the United Kingdom's entire collection of oil paintings in public ownership" , then it all moved to ArtUK.Org in 2016.

I remember commenting on some radar paintings when it was "Your Paintings", I doubt they made the moved to ArtUK.

Let us hope they don't feel the need to relaunch the site under a new name in the future....

BBC Your Paintings used to have tagging but Art.UK no longer seems to have it.

I presume that it was considered that the BBC should not be paying for Your Paintings, might be the moaning from commercial sites that has reduced the BBC website to a shadow of what it used to be.
