Flypast Magazine

I thought members might like to know Fly Past have published a base by base guide to US air power in Britain, entitled "Mighty Eighth". It only costs £4.99 & I bought my copy today from Sainsbury's. It contains a wealth of information and covers airfields from Alconbury to Wyton. Each has its station number, location, previous use, major units and lastly afterwards plus loads of notes. On page 20 there is a pictorial salute to Bassingbourne's B-17's of the 91st bomb group and almost at the end a group finder matching groups to airfields other short articles Covers nearly 100 pages offering a good deal of information (colour pictures of "assembly ships") for a novice like me and some other members who possess specialist knowledge. I think it offers remarkably good value.

Have now got my Mighty eighth magazine & i must say its a realy good buy .Any one who has an interest in the Eighth

The April edition of Flypast carried an advert for the Mighty Eighth. Did anyone else buy a copy? At £4.99p it is worth getting one. I tried ordering one from my local Martins shop, couldn't get one, nor from the local-ish W H Smith shop. Eventually got my neighbours to buy one on-line for me direct from Flypast. It's a superb publication, get one if you can. I also bought the June edition of Aeroplane which had an accompaniment magazine about the Mosquito, Britain's World War Two 'Wooden Wonder' this 130 page supplement is well-worth the total price of £7.99p. The front cover of this shows a Mosquito overflying the Amiens prison.
Just discovered by removing a small sticker that this magazine was priced at £7.95 seperately.

To be honest I already have this information as I have been studying the Eighth since 1970 being inspired by Ken Rust's Group histories by Aero Books and then Roger Freemans classic "The Mighty Eighth " recommended for all . I find like the Dambusters it has got too commercial in recent years, and if you are as old as me we already have most of the information.

Ok but i am sure there are alot of younger people with an interest in the Eighth & the Dam busters who may not have any books on these subjects so Fly past magazines are cheap sourse of information . Its all about keeping history alive.

Only just noticed this earlier thread...

Just before 1pm today I called at my local newsagent to look at the May !! edition of Flypast. As I approached this section a young boy of about 8 years was saying to his Mum, ''Look Mum it's got a Lancaster on the front'' His Mother walked away and he followed only to run back a few seconds later saying '' yes it's definitely a Lancaster'' His Mother replied '' It's far too expensive and not worth it'' Poor kid I thought. Anyway I bought this superb edition 122 pages of pure pleasure reading
