Defence Estates destroys surplus plans POLICY!!! was created by Phillip Rhodes
When RAF Driffield was sold last year, Defence Estates' Archive/Library threw away all their plans and drawings pertaining to the camp. This is policy!!! I wish I knew beforehand as hundreds of plans from Driffield could have been saved. Paul, can you find out if this is policy and if it can be changed, with surplus plans going to you instead.

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

Philip, I don't think this is policy as what normally happens, is that the plans are left on site for the new owners. I have seen this time and time again. At the following for example:
West Raynham
Chedington
West Ruislip
Quedgely
Upper Heyford
Alconbury
Lee on Solent
If they have been destroyed, then it was not DE but someone else. In some cases the drawings are moved to another location:
Biggin Hill
Eastcote
West Drayton
In other cases they are sent to the RAF Museum (the RAFM entire building collection)
West Raynham
Chedington
West Ruislip
Quedgely
Upper Heyford
Alconbury
Lee on Solent
