I am looking for information on No1 Base Signal and Radar Unit. The Unit was onboard LST 420 when it hit a mine off Ostend on 7th November 1944 and almost the enire Unit was lost. There is very little information online about the Unit itself, they could possibly be a Mobile Radar Unit, and they were based at Chigwell which, from what I have read, had a lot of secret goings on in the latter years of the war. My Father in Law has asked me to look into it as he was only 9 months old when his Dad was one of those lost on LST420, so has no memories of him.

Yes I have thanks. I think I've found out as much as I'm going to about the sinking. Looking for as much as I can find out about the Unit itself now, such as where they did their training and type of equipment used. I have found out why they were going across to Belguim and that the actual Unit strength was 450 and of that, only 303 were sent across.
