Very difficult to estimate how much 'bang' will be required to complete a job.

I remember reading a 42 Group document written some time after D-Day which contained the statement: '... since the war in Europe is likely to be over before the end of the year...' They were referring to 1944!

Another 42 Group document estimated that, from the end of the conflict, the group would receive some 15,000 tons per week from factories and ports during the next three months. This quantity was already in the production and transportation pipeline and could not be cancelled. It caused serious problems in both storage and disposal.
