Sad to hear, there were a couple of Jeep thefts in Essex a year ago sounds like they will never be seen again one of them was based at Chipping Ongar with the 387th Bg and was kept very close to the airfield, sounds like it was well thought out and professionally stolen. Hope this one gets back to its owner with it being stolen at a very public place somebody out there may be able to help.

I am very upset to see this. The 387th Jeep mentioned by SS above was stolen from my land, and had been in the possession the same family since being given to them by Col Brown when the 387th left in 44. It was seen that morning on a trailer on the A414, but Essex Police were, I'm afraid, absolutely hopeless in their response to that information, and nothing has been heard of it since.
It is never good, but so much worse when there is a long family connection.
Is there a WW2 vehicle network? If so could they all put out an "APB" asking about anyone who is selling one (to enable details to be checked) or who has mysteriously acquired one? If the registration, engine and chassis number are known this would make it easier for the casual observer to check.
Sadly, I suspect it is already in a container on the high seas as any UK thief would have a hard time using or displaying it. Hopefully any network is worldwide.
Such a shame the police are too busy to solve crimes these days.
