I have come across a reference to a number of US 'QM Truck Companies (Aviation) (Provost)'. Being unfamiliar with the US structure and being unable to locate anything to help elsewhere, can anyone on here shed light on why a QM Aviation Truck Company would be attached to, or under the control of, the Provost Marshall? The units were at a UK 9th Air Force base.
Time permitting, I have started to trawl through the 9th Air Force Provost Marshall records on Fold3.
I note that one of the responsibilities of the Air Police Division was the handling and security of POWs. Tranportation may have been assigned for this purpose. Is there an indication as to which Base the PM was located?
Potters Hill, Yorkshire. AAF546. This site had various uses including a POW camp so maybe this is the explanation? But information uncovered so far suggests the POW role followed the US departure, but any information to update this will be welcome. (AAM in Britain).
Problem shared, problem solved. Thanks very much for that. Now to go back and check the various sources that had it wrong. See whereabouts back up the chain the error began.
