HI all

I'm sure I saw someone had posted a plan of Starfish control building (typical AM drawing) but for the life of me can't find it. I need the drawing number and also if poss, where they got it from. I have vague recollections of a plan of one at Flixton which I posted but it wasn't an A/M Drawing, but I can't find that on the forum either.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Rich

Please excuse me if this has been mentioned before, I first became aware of these systems when trudging out on the mud maintaining moorings at Langstone Sailing Club, between Chichester and Portsmouth. There are lots of circular patches of dangerous soft mud, which I knew were bomb craters, courtesy of the Luftwaffe. One day as we were out there a newbie commented ' we should do a risk assessment ! ' so I replied ' we're walking on tons of unexploded bombs, how are you going to factor that in then ? '.

I decided to investigate and discovered the Starfish 16 Decoy system in Langstone Harbour, designed to lure the German bombers away from the vital Portsmouth docks; I'm guessing the inhabitants of Langstone and Hayling Island weren't asked. Airspeed Test Pilot Robin Milne ( father of a friend of mine ) was asked to count the bomb craters to judge the success, Starfish 16 consisted of controllable oil and solid fuelled fires, on rafts and along the shore, and it worked - similar systems were set up at places like Bristol and Coventry but sadly only after they suffered big raids.

A great help along with the electronic spoofing, I've always been amused the Allied codename for the German guidance beams was ' Headache ' while our countermeasures were called ' Aspirin ' !

Plenty of threads on the forum discussing decoy sites both military and civil Andrew.

The 'bible' on this subject is 'Fields of Deception' by Colin Dobinson.

Many thanks
