History Repeating - SR71 at Mildenhall 1990 or 91 - B-17 at Alconbury 1990 or 91
I was a member of the B-17 Preservation Society for a couple of years, and I think at this show I intended to ask for a look inside but never followed it up.
I started with Biggin Hill from 1968 through to 200? and when I was able to travel on my own I went to Farnborough in the seventies - a lot of US YFs flying then! At the same time I went to Greenham Common - very tiring on the legs and a 10 hour air show for which I usually too ten rolls of slide film. By the eighties I added West Malling, North Weald, Duxford and even Old Warden along with a single Fairford, which was disappointing. Only went to Mildenhall once but the burgers and beers do tend to stick in you memory - cheap if I recall it was the one of the few times I drank alchohol at an air show the previous one being a few pints at a wet Farnborough.
Incidentally all the airshow crashes that occurred at the ones I went to were either on the other day or in the case of the helicopter at Biggin, whilst I was in the traffic jam going there. The only one I witnessed was the Me 109 tipping up at the end of the runway at Biggin, that was not really a crash so I was lucky over the years.
No Amount Of Evidence Will Ever Persuade An Idiot (probably not Mark Twain)
Regards UK shows the first one my Dad took me to was at Booker (High Wycombe) also Abingdon this would have been very late 60s early 70s. Got some very small white-border photographs from this somewhere. Also got taken to a football match at Oxford but only once !! It done absolutely nothing for me at all. Never been to any such occasion since
