For quite some time now I've been doing some research on WWII Watch Offices, with the intention of "building" one for use in a short animated clip. I was really surprised to discover just how little detailed information there is available on the internet regarding these older buildings.

The first stumbling block is when one goes looking for AM drawings. It would appear that the only way to access same is for the seeker to visit one, or more, buildings scattered around the UK and apply for copies. Not really a serious problem if you live there, but difficult if you don't. I was also surprised to discover that there are almost no interior photograps available, not even from those buildings listed as Museums.

Anyway, after doing some serious searching, and visiting countless internet sites, I finally got lucky on the Metheringham Airfield site - they had a complete set of drawings for "their" AM DRG 343/43 Watch Office. I would really love to post a link to the drawings page, but as of today - 23 Feb. 2015 - the site appears to be undergoing a facelift. The absence of a direct internet link to the drawings makes my appeal for further information somewhat difficult, but perhaps someone can answer a few questions anyway.

General questions:

1: The interior walls. Were they just painted brick, or plastered and painted brick?

2: The floors. Were they bare concrete, tarred concrete, wooded planks?

3: The plans show a 100 Gal. outside water tank at the rear of the building. Does anyone know the dimensions of same?

4: The Watch Office (Duty Pilots) shows where a Pyro Cupboard is installed, but provides no information regarding dimensions, building materials etc. Can anyone provide the missing information?

5: PBX. the base dimensions are shown, but there is no information provided regarding material, access door, height.

6: A Charting Bench is shown in the Met Office, and AM DRG 13030/41 is referenced. Does anyone know where to find the drawing?

7: There is a hatch shown between the Signals Office and the Control Room, however the "Detail" mentioned isn't available.

Anyway, I think that I have taken up enough of your time with my first post here on the Forum.

I've attached a few stills of the SletchUp model as it now stands, and promise to post more as things progress.
