Historic Counties Listings

Just wanted to highlight for everybody that the County areas of the forum for specific Airfields, Non Airfield Sites, Other sites and Defences are based on the Historic Counties from the early 20th Century rather than any of the more modern reorganisations which have come and gone over more recent years

This affects many of the sites in which we have an interest. Where I live in Lincolnshire for instance we now have three counties where before there was just the one. Other counties have disappeared completely or been wholly or partially consumed by adjacent counties

So we would ask that before you create a brand new thread for the airfield, memorial or other site in the counties listings you first look to see if there is a pre-existing topic or thread where you expect it.

If you can't find it maybe its in a different county. You could try this gazetteer


and enter the name of your location. You can confirm it on the map and the table on the left will show you the correct county

So in this result, I asked for Dinton, chose the one in Buckinghamshire rather than the one in Wiltshire


Hopefully this will reduce the need to move posts to the correct area or having to merge threads/topics, and will mean that your post hasn't disappeared from where you put it because a mod has relocated it
