Missing photos uploaded from my iPhone

15 Jul 2016 06:04 #1 by REF
I recently uploaded some photos in the Glamorgan section of the forum of memorials at Sigingstone and Llandow. All the photos have now gone except one, I assume its a forum issue as I have not deleted them:

Any ideas please?

Thanks Rich,

I'll get DSC to look in to it. I suspect that is a result of the resizing task they carried out on Thursday.

Can you let me know if you find any other examples of that please?

So, this appears to be a problem with iPhones and iPads. When anyone uploads a photo from one of these they are uploaded with the file name 'image.jpg' every time for every photo. iOS doesn't add a consecutive file number or even a date stamp.

Different websites and forums handle this in different ways. In some the files are just overwritten in Kunena, it changes the file name to whatever the previous one was, but adds the next consecutive number to the end of the file name rather than roll the last number.

So, when you then download the file, because the file name is so long it has gone beyond the 245 character limit for the PC.

So, when the photos were downloaded to do the size reduction exercise the PCs couldn't handle the file name length.

It's a lengthy explanation for what has happened, sorry.

Anyway, can you re-upload your photos please? Sorry, but it will be the fastest way of solving this particular problem.

Going forward it won't be an issue as it only gives a problem when the file is downloaded.......(famous last words)

Well, after all that, DSC have managed to locate and reinstate the missing photos so no need to worry now Rich, all sorted.

I'm hoping we are now back on an even keel again!
