Enemy air attacks in SW Scotland was created by Solway
Were police records of enemy air attacks kept in Scotland. I have records for Dumfriesshire. Were any kept for the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright (Kirkcudbrightshire) and Wigtownshire?

Thanks Martin. Doubt if this attack will be mentioned. Bombers on their way to bomb Clydebank. One spotting lights and/or heather burning on hills above Penpont Dumfriesshire released his bombload of 14 high explosive bombs and over 2000 incendiary bombs. Well off target!?

Presume you have asked the local archive and museums. Probably a lot of luck involved in what survives especially as I think a number of counties around there were merged and disappeared.
You sometimes find an aircraft jettisons bombs in a rural area and the locals are convinced it was aiming for some local target.

Yes Martin. I have a list of all the bombings in Dumfriesshire. I put the extract from the list on a local Memories Facebook page which provoked lots of responses. The other sizeable and tragic bombing was on the 7th April 1941 when 13 H.E. Bombs were dropped on Gretna when 27 persons were killed and 16 injured.
