A friend me his copy of "Ragnar's Guide To Home And Recreational Use Of High Explosives", it is just a small paperback that was originally very cheap. Amazon have it for £148!

I had bought a xeroxed book " LLoyds Shipwreck Index of the British Isles: Volume 1 ".... for 10p at a jumble sale
. I thought I'd give it a try on eBay starting at 99p ...it went for £79.

Years ago I used to like looking around the January book sales, you could get some really good bargains because I think many were cancelled orders or just ones that had not sold. Now there is so much discounted or remaindered that you do not see the same type of bargain. When I worked in the South of England, I managed to get occasionally to Foyles during the sales. I picked up a copy of Attack Warning Red one year. I remember seeing The Deadly Fuze and thinking it looked interesting so bought it for a very low price.
My early trips to Foyles often unearthed books priced in £ s d, it was only three years after decimalisation, and although dual pricing really started in 1968 some must have pre-dated that and despite inflation being significant at the time they still sold them at jacket price.
Rather appropriately my first big book purchase was in the early seventies and it was the Mighty Eighth by Roger Freeman, only problem it was priced in dollars, for some reason, and from memory it was $15 and the shop charged me around £6.50 - those were the days (my friend, I thought they would never end.....).

A couple of weeks ago my Brother was in Banbury, Oxon. Phoned me to say he's just seen a book about the Lancaster in some odd-looking shop, did I want it ? It cost £6.00 well worth it I think. It's in excellent condition, 304 pages, though some of the pictures I have got in another Lancaster book by these two authors. Also found this folded 2009 newspaper article inside, been stuck together a bit , but ok.
